Because cyber is an afterthought for many top level leaders, and when budget is tight, cyber is not a priority until they've been a victim.

Most clients are not interested in cybersecurity work unless they have had a massive breach or detrimental loss of business. Lots of them will just pay the fines and move on, too, instead of investing in addressing cyber risk.
Plus Big 4 is freakin’ expensive. You may as well hire a boutique to do the work for 1/5 the cost (that is just a guess).

-Big 4 services are often perceived as too expensive. There is lot of competition from other midsized consulting firms that offer the same service at a lesser cost.
-Core businesses of Big 4 outside of Cybersecurity are impacted by AI. I see the layoff move as a “wait and see” tactical approach by the Big 4.

Simple, we all hired based on growth projections that were backed up by 2023/24+ pipelines. When those projected were cut, durations shortened, and sales cycles got longer we had too many people.
Agreed, but I wouldn't say the less qualified people are the ones being cut. Makes me want to go back to a boutique.
