I’m currently working in Citi as an AVP in Mumbai for the past 9 months.. due to personal reasons I wanted to move back to Pune (I have worked in Pune for last 8 years before coming to Citi) so I landed up with an offer from HSBC into Wholesale IT (GCB5).
My current Fixed CTC in Citi is 26.5 excluding PF and Retrials and HSBC IT has offered me 30.5 for the same and said they cannot increase further as am moving jobs in after 9 months which is too early..
Questions -
Have I been low balled?

USDC has a serious transparency problem. When I was recruited they conveniently left out the differences between Core and USDC. As an outsider, it’s hard to find info on this.
D8 that’s like saying women deserve to make less than men because they signed for their job offer. Just because you see what’s available to you, doesn’t make you aware of how that lines up from an equity standpoint to what is offered to others.
What it comes down to, you are cheaper to bull your core/traditional counterparts. It is definitely not something recruiters talk about unless asked directly.
To switch to another line of business, you need someone to advocate for you. Think PPMD level. Along with that, you’d need a rational reason. But with USDC being used interchangeably with core for projects currently, I’m not sure how easy that would be.

All I can say , and please take everyone’s words with a grain of salt including mine. Take advantage of the firms resources and gravitate towards projects with good / solid people. Once you start to get ahold of your first project start taking extr circular courses to compensate for the lack of structure here. I am almost a year through and have been interviewing to leave but I have some killer resume points and am happy to have gotten the experience. I could understand if you thought that this was going to be your “dream job” where you thought that all your hard work had been actualized however this is a stepping stone to that role. It stings at first to realize this but it’s ok because your trajectory is positive as long as you don’t fall into the complacency trap that is usdc
You spoke my mind. I truly thought this was it, and was certain to spend the next 5-10 years of my life here. But getting to know about all this soon after joining was heart breaking. But I can only hope for the best!
Just wonder, did they not tell you the minimal travel requirements? I know when I interviewed that was the big draw for me to have a maximum of 25% travel. The name USDC came up a few times but didn't mean anything really to me at the time.
That's unfortunate. But core have up to 80% travel and nobody gets hired for a specific project except pdm which is bottom of the chain on everything (project ends you got 2 weeks to get staffed on new project or bye bye)
