That's super weird. I think Server 1 is probably right in thinking this has something to do with inclusivity. Which doesn't sound bad in theory, but I think it's an odd thing to include on an application.
A lot of applications do that now cause they refuse to hire anybody in the lbgtq community. It's their way of picking out "the right people"
It is actually. I know a few people that have been turned down because of that and there's plenty of companies that refuse to hire anybody of that community. Not everywhere is the same and not everyone's experiences are the same.
Companies ask that to comply with EEOC rules and regs. It's standard these days with larger companies, or companies owned by larger companies. If a company has more than 100 employees, I think, they're required to report that information. Using the info for hiring would be illegal.
