Because they don’t care about LinkedIn, which has become almost unbearable to log into with all the influencer nonsense.

They are active on LinkedIn though and have recent activity…
Some people don't want their family/ friends/ whoever to know where they work. They would prefer to keep it to themselves. Especially if their family is the kind that asks for money.
Regardless, some people value their privacy. Some people may miss the age before Linkedin when people weren't able to look a person up, see their whole career history, and compare their past experiences to those of a stranger's.
It feels a bit invasive, and I think it sort of spurs on a culture of judgment and competition. Everyone's story is unique, but I feel like Linkedin makes people feel like they have to explain and justify their background and roles to others. Just my take.
I waited for a year because the partners from my last firm were obsessive and paranoid and were checking my page constantly. They had already hinted at blackballing me. I wanted to get through a review cycle, get excellent reviews, which I did, and then update it and let them try and trash me so everyone knew it was baseless.
As soon as I posted where I worked, associates at my last firm started telling me that they updated their constant story telling about me to include my new firm so current associates felt like they had reach and knew everything (and probably to make it seem like they made me since I went to a much higher ranked firm).
I didn’t update and it’s been 5 months. I’ll update after a year like mentioned above

Have heard it being done if they went round a recruiter to get a job (i.e through a friend during recruiter’s submission window).
