From a purely COVID POV, if the objective is to minimize exposure, IMO you are better off going with a nanny provided you are confident they take precautions. The catch is if the nanny doesn’t take precautions or has high exposure risks (like taking public transport , living with others who are less careful), then all bets are off.
On the flip side, most daycares take a lot of precautions but your child is directly exposed to people from multiple households. Granted COVID rates in kids are low but they are not unheard of either.
If you can afford it and can find a trustworthy one, l’d go with a nanny but at the end of the day you got to do whatever works best for you.
Our son have been going to daycare this whole time. They do a great job to clean and separate
If you can afford it, nanny is the way to go. Just make sure the nanny isn't just someone that will watch the kid but come up with learning activities.
Is this purely from a COVID safety point of view but other factors too?
I have a 13 month old and we split time over the last year between nanny and daycare. Nanny was good for personalized attention (and we really wanted to minimize exposure to covid), but I’m much happier with daycare. My son gets to hang out with other kids, his program has a whole curriculum, and they’ve been managing covid extremely well (daily temperature checks, no parents allowed inside, everyone always masked, etc.). If you can find a good daycare, you might find they’re handling covid very well.
OP - I live in JC and both our kids go to day care. Older one is 5 and younger is 1.5. Say cares are taking a lot of precautions for COVID and we have been very pleased with how they are handling things. DM if you want to chat more.
