Since I recently joined Citi, Now I want to learn and do trading inside citi. I really want to master this skill ..

No way. I have taken it 2 times. Both in promotion year and got promoted.
Probably. I’m doing the same starting in January. It’s my second child. I could care less if it takes an additional year to make SM; if the firm cares that much that I’m taking the time off I’ll just go to another firm.
It’s my second child and this is the only time you’ll be able to have the time off unless you have more children.
Waiting one year, if it comes to that, really isn’t going to hurt you.
More likely. You are disappearing for 1/3 of the year and it means your metrics would hurt a bit. if you can perform equal or more in 8 months for what others need for 12 months, you’d definitely has an advantage there (eg bring in X amount of revenue and pipeline just like others)
With that, you will also have to consider your night and weekend time that you won’t be working with your new responsibilities.
So if I were your employer and if I only have X number of spots for promote this year, I’d consider your colleagues who put in more hours than you do, who perform better than you do in the entire year and who sacrificed his personal life for his promotion more than what you did.
Unless you are some kind of a superhero who can outperform others with less than 1/3 of time, it will definitely hurt your chance. It’s not because your employer want to penalize you for taking time off that you deserve, but because there are a lot of people who’s waiting on the same pot of gold and willing to put more time and energy than you do.
As for myself, I’m doing the same thing as well. I’m taking my paternity leave regardless of how it’d hurt my chance. Money and title can wait if it doesn’t happen but I won’t trade in my chance to stay with my family and I wouldn’t want to miss it.
EY has 4 months paid paternity leave?!
I think it is totally fair to evaluate someone who took FMLA (worked 8 months) equally against someone who worked 12 months. That's the entire point of FMLA! You should not be punished or negatively affected for taking family time, paternity leave, etc.
^that’s silly. We promote year-round when folks are ready.
Ey1 did you take the full 4 months paternity? I have #3 on way but really debating what to do.
Every time!
Yes, but only bc you don't have as much time to gather the proof points for your case. But it's ok, a year or two either way is not bad at all. Life is short. Live it. Enjoy it. Family first.
@BCG1 I wish that were the case in the big 4. Big 4 promotes once per year. Decisions are made final around may/June and that’s also when expectations and metrics start for the next level but they don’t give you the title or pay increase until the September timeframe. When I was at Booz they promoted 4 times per year, you could be reviewed during any cycle (either once per year or off cycle if you were ready) and promotions were immediate with title and pay.
Is fair for someone that worked 12 months to be measured against someone that worked 8? D1 has the right perspective, for sure.
Yes. So does Deloitte - the sick part is, even with a big discount, our rates are so high that I could work 1/4 of the year, take the other 9 months off and Deloitte would still turn a profit on me.
^^^^^ and it's actually illegal to do so. #lawsuit
I don’t think it will directly hurt you, no one will say that you were out of office and therefore shouldn’t be promoted. It will, however, limit the time frame that you will be able to sharpen your body of work for the fiscal year, so just by virtue of the fact that other people will be delivering and selling... yes it will hurt you sort of indirectly. I’m on paternity right now and decided to only take a portion of it. taking care of the little one has been immensely difficult (no shit, being stay at home parent is also rough!) but I already wish I had taken more time😕 before I took leave I would wrap up work and get to see him for an hour (two max), feed him and he's asleep for the night. Barely even got to see him. Taking care of him now I realize how precious this time really is.
That said, if your body if work contributes more value in 8 months than someone who has worked for 12 months, you should (and will) get a better rating. Like I said, no one will hold the actual OOO time against you.
Why couldn’t you just get promoted 4 months later?
BCG1 pretty rigid promotion calendar
Per policy it shud not affect your promo case but the reality is different. I had a partner once tell me that the most important thing is availability...pretty much sums it up.
Kpmg 2 is right. That’s reality
Metrics are not in play during time off. Don’t even need to do time sheets.
