No - no one cares, there’s always stigmas towards all kinds of travelers, all just up to individual. Saying this as someone who has been to 80 countries, child of diplomats, former diplomat, have lived in places with great and horrible relationships with the US. Honestly just up to individual, some of the most welcoming people have been from countries we hardly had diplomatic relations with bc of how hostile it was
If you’re respectful, well mannered, and have good intentions, people are usually very nice even when you do something wrong out of ignorance.
Let’s be real—being American has always come with baggage. Sometimes it’s fine, other times you get hit with every stereotype in the book. I’ve definitely felt the need to add “but I didn’t vote for that” as a disclaimer more than once.
In most places, people separate individuals from governments. I’ve had thoughtful conversations, and sometimes a little humility goes a long way. Being respectful, curious, and open-minded helps soften any tension—no matter the headlines.
