With gas prices going up and up I’ve been seriously thinking about whether I should I take on a hybrid/fully-remote job (I’m currently full time in the office). Are there even companies that still offer WFH or is it just a thing of the past these days?

You can get remote positions, but gas shouldn’t be a factor that would cause you look for a new job. If you look at how much more in gas you are spending you might find working remotely would only save you $100-$200/month.

like

That’s $200 not going to the gas companies though

If you're really spending that much on gas, you should move closer to the office. I can't imagine living so far away that fuel to get there is a significant budget line item.

like

It all adds up though doesn’t it and I’m not earning the big bucks at the moment

You survive high gas prices before you can do it again

like

And how does one survive higher prices

How long is your commute?

It’s around 40-50 mins traffic dependant

I have an operations role that’s fully remote.

Where abouts did you see the job ad for that?

Lol job market is tough, remote market even tougher. You'd likely take a paycut if you could find a remote job which would more than offset whatever you spend on gas

It was something I’ve been weighing up. Could be worth it

I am currently hybrid with two days in the office. It's been over 10 years since I was in an office 5 days per week.

You are more likely to find a hybrid role than fully remote role.

There are still fully remote roles out there, but many of those roles are getting 100+ applications within the first week of it being posted. And that is assuming they are legit jobs and not scams.

The Average gas prices were higher in June 2022 than what it is now. What did you do then?

Hybrid could be the way to go if there isn’t much of a salary drop off

I find it is worth it to find a hybrid role at a lower salary - my work life balance has never been better

Hi all,

Do firms match offers from other Big 4s for campus hires? I’ve received a campus offer from both
KPMG and EY. I’m more interested in the EY offer, but they are paying 3k less than KPMG.

Would it be a bad move to let them know about the other offer and try negotiating? I feel it wont make a difference in the long run, but at the same time I don’t want to leave any money on the table if possible.

Thanks!
