Actually no. “Talk” may have subsided but our new hire bench is continually stacked with an awesome mix of people and experiences
Feeling like our industry is pretty darn diverse guys. Sure there are some areas which need work, but in other areas I think minorities and women hires are overrepresented. Much of that may be on the younger side, but today's entry level hires will be tomorrow's leaders.
As an interesting aside, we were having a hard time casting Black actors recently because so much of the talent pool was booked solid and unavailable.
If you doubt this and have some to kill, try this experiment: Watch TV for two hours and count the POC talent in the commercials. My buddies and I did this last week and over 60% of all actors in the commercials were POC (the vast majority being Black). If that's not progress, I don't know what is!
My opinion is that the one seriously underrepresented ethnicity in advertising and film is Latinx. They make up 19% of the US population (Blacks are 13%) and I just don't see them getting the exposure or career opportunities other POC are getting. Let's change that!
Latinos being unrepresented in the industry is FACTS. Seguimos echándole ganas!

Our C-suite is 4 out of 5 female and 2 are BIPOC. Need to work harder on mid-level now.

Yes. Head of account and head of strategy.

I’m hearing and seeing lots of soft calls and support for diversity industry-wide, but after a flurry of hiring POC into DE&I roles (but without any real budgets, hiring, firing, or contracting powers), and some more diverse than usual casting of talent in ads, not much action.

Are these changes you expect to see overnight or over time? Can’t force it and still has to be the right hires which falls on recruitment.
We're still heavily monitoring and working against goals, but when you have 700 employees and 300 open positions, you start scrambling to get anything breathing into a seat
As a VP, you have an important role — you can hire minorities on to your team. stack the lower/middle ranks!

Just got served 👊
My last agency had so many gaping holes from a mass exodus that they were mass hiring freelancers. They would introduce the BIPOC freelancers to the rest of the agency, and had secret Caucasian teams working on some projects that were never introduced to the rest of the Creative team.
Jesus - that's wrong on so many levels. As an older creative, I've had my work presented by younger teams because they were afraid the client wouldn't buy a social media campaign from a 50 year old.
My agency has one POC in leadership out of 20 people.
That's terrible. I know C-Suite is usually behind the times, but 19 out of 20 are white? Damn.
Basic white people are getting hired by the droves.
Let's hope so
