Great day to be on the bay

May I know what is the notice period if one resigns in infy during the first 6 months of joining? I am a lateral resource and they hired me in June, but they have no projects related to my tech and want me to take weird roles.. seems they are hiring to increase employee count and cross training most. just looking for options..

All of this extra work preparing for in-person, hybrid or some type of combination is a great time to be earning clock hours. We can design classes to fit your needs and you will not need to pay until 2022 when you move up the pay scale. Let me know if I can help. Email me at robcollins247@gmail.com

Congrats!!!! BUT, never believe a firm that says lower billables.
I was recently in the same position but was lateraling to another jurisdiction to be with my fiancée. Tell them that you’re really grateful for your time with the team, and have especially appreciated their support, guidance and mentorship over the years but this opportunity is better aligned with your career goals so it’s not one you think you can pass up. Be prepared they might try to counteroffer to keep you. It’ll be fine! You’ll feel much better once you’ve ripped the bandaid off. Congrats on the new offer and best of luck to you!
Be appreciative of their support. They will understand if they aren’t jerks and, if they are, you shouldn’t care.
Plenty of people leave firms and then return later. At my previous firm, one of the partners was in his 3rd stint!
People in your team who are not assholes will understand your decision provided you are polite. Despite how it may seem, no employer owns the eternal right to your labour.
Before you formally hand in your notice by email, pick up the phone and call the partners in your team that you work with and let them know. Offer them the opportunity to be the ones to communicate the news internally. Thank them for the opportunity to work in their team, and to learn and develop your career under their tutelage. If possible do not say that you went for the better pay - eg say that you were offered a role with better work-life balance, and in the context of everything going on at the moment ie COVID you have made a decision to prioritise family and life outside of work. If your new firm offers different types of work, which you would want to get involved with, this is also a good thing to mention - eg for my last move a factor was the promise of more general commercial litigation rather than the niche litigation area I was in previously. If the partner takes the news well on the phone, and you feel confident, you might also want to say that you would not rule out a return in future but at the moment you feel this is the right decision and you hope that the firm respects that.
Of course, there is a chance that one of the partners is an asshole. In the case of my last move, one of the partners in the team was very magnanimous, but the other, who had put me forward for promotion three months earlier (which I turned down) reacted badly and started picking fights with me in the weeks afterwards. I stood my ground and the result was that I got gardening leave which as a 4th year associate was a major win.
I’m in the same situation.
same boat 😣
