work at a big name agency that would look great on my resume or work at a growing mid-size shop where you maybe get along with the people better? I have two offers both equal in salary and I’m torn. any advice on deciding?

if you don’t have a big name on your resume, I’d get one

like

Big agency. Nothing will beat the cache and you should stay 18 months minimum. My 2 cents.

like

Me personally I’d suck it up and stay 2 years. And I’ve done that. When I was a kid I’d overhear convos about being wary about someone who jumps & can barely stay a year. Now that Im in a position to hire, when I see a year I feel the same way. 18 months starts to feel like they gave the place a shot at least and didn’t just fly in and fly out.

like

When you say mid level agency I am guessing based on reputation and the account vs. size. If that’s the case get a top tier name on your resume. It will do wonders and open doors.

like

I worked for a top agency for years. It was horrible. I don’t think the name recognition is worth the cut throat competition, the stress, total lack of feeling appreciated, etc.
I honestly made better work, was less jaded, and had much less anxiety working for a less cool shop.
Literally no one in the world cares where you work.
Climate change will do us all in within the next few decades anyway. No reason to do that to yourself.

like

That’s exactly what I mean.

It depends on where you are in your career. What is your CV missing? What does your resume needs? For example, I took a gamble at AKQA and I lost that gamble because the agency is a joke. So now I need a good name agency to tell the market “AKQA didn’t work but now I’m at _______ doing good shit”.

If you come from a good agency and you can afford to venture into the unknown, do it! It’s always rewarding. You definitely learn a lot about yourself out of your comfort zone.

I can only say that it’s not Portland. But that Portland doesn’t seem to be that different

I'd go with the one with more people, you'll be spending a lot of time with them, so you'd have a wider set of friends to get a long with rather than a smaller select few you

like

Growing mid-size sometimes come with the structural growing pains, that ultimately drive you to work harder than expected and wearing multiple hats constantly. Been in both places and I do feel better with the big name structure; the mid-size one was fun but I ended up exhausted. That’s my experience and each one knows where do we thrive and where we don’t.

like

Small/mid-sized shops are fine… until you want to leave. So much easier to move around when you have recognizable names on your resume.

like

So true. It hasn’t been hard getting opportunities right now, the market is great, but it won’t always be this way.

How do you know you wouldn’t get along with the people at the big name agency?
Which agency has the most room for growth?

I think I could get along with anyone but it clicked a little better with the other team. Not sure about growth tough to say

like

you at a big agency now ?

no, small/mid sized agency. has a lot of growing pains/lack of process and nervous I would be getting into a similar situation

Hi Fishes,

I was offered RSUs for the first time as part of my compensation. I think I understand the concept as such but there are a few intricacies I was looking to clarify. Could anyone let me know if my grant date is 9th nov, 2022 and vesting period is 1 year, will I get RSUs allotted at the price of stock on grant date or vest date (in this case 9th nov, 2023)? Happy to connect in DMs as well

Thank you for your time!

Our senior creative leadership keep talking about winning Cannes Lions and D&AD pencils but none of them have actually won any since 2007 (that’s 14 years 😭 ) and between all three of them they’ve never won more than a couple of silvers, a couple of bronzes and a couple of in-books (that’s with a combined experience of over 60 years 😭). They have no clue 🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭. Tell me something about your agency so that I can feel better about the hell-hole I find myself in🙏

People who don’t submit their time daily, how do you remember what you did and for how long? I’ve always just submitted each timer as soon as I finish a task—“call with x re y” really doesn’t take that long even if I’m busy, and if I don’t do it immediately I’ll forget all those little I did in the morning by the time I go to bed. No shade at all to those with different systems, just genuinely curious because I see a lot about catching up at month end on here and I have no idea how that works??
