You could always get back into M&A post MBA?
FP&A is hugely role dependent in terms of what you are doing. If the company you are jumping to is PE portco or Publicly Traded would probably be good experience.
If it’s a startup would look closely at the CFO’s background before joining. If it’s closely held (family owned) would be careful and do your due diligence.
I think it’s a good role then. If you are working directly with the CFO you will probably be involved with producing most of the analysis and reporting the PE firm is asking him/her for. Will give you a great idea of how PE manages portcos and requirements of being a PE cfo.
If that is something you are interested in i think it would be good. Although would also make sure you like the company / industry too.
How many YOE are you? In general if you’re very early in your career (eg <10yoe) then moving around doesn’t really hinder coming back to certain roles/industries, especially these two specific roles that both have decent amount of accounting and financial modeling involved. Later in your career it’s harder to secure senior level roles if you haven’t been in a certain space for a long time.
No. It’s a step back. You’ll be crunching balance sheets for functions who want to know how many seats they can afford.
