Hi, I'm leaving Citi in 2 months. It's hard to make this decision. I have an offer from a small startup. In citi, my previous experience was not considered and was reskilled to different tech which is the reason for change.I don't like to exit citi. As I like the company so much. But considering my current knowledge,I am in the middle of the sea.I am afraid now that the new company's offer would be revoked due to this recession?Or can I take back my resignation in citi before the last working day.Is this wise decision?
Any advice on moving from L4 to L5 in Amazon?

Just left consulting for tech and it has done wonders for my sanity. I actually did the opposite of you (sf>ny). Will say that I don’t miss SF but it was a great stepping stone to my career.
That said, Location is very fluid right now and most tech companies aren’t ready to work in person yet so you don’t have to physically move until they tell you to.
After that, there is acknowledgment in flexibility of locations because many people have permanently relocated to other states.
My advise is take the job but stay in the city that you like. Relocate when the company has a solid back to work plan.
Continue to find exits in NY while gaining the tech experience.
I did this. I do like NYC better but SF isn’t too bad. It has its own problems but it’s really not as bad as the haters on here make it out to be. Will stay for at least a couple years for career development

What are the main +s and -s for you vs NYC?

Moved from NYC to SF and found myself moving back to NYC after a year. SF was great but doesn’t offer nearly as much as NYC days and I found myself missing it everyday. SF is great but not the same. Happy to chat if you want any advice!

I feel this! I don’t think I’ll hate SF (not as much as I hate my job anyway), but it’s not NY and it is just a very different city. Did you find another job in NY or relocated within the company?
Moved from NY to SF and I would only do it if you were interested in living in SF and having a different experience from NY. It is NOT NY and I found it hard to find anything I liked better about SF than NYC except the lack of snow. Although summer in SF is so depressing at a consistent 60 degrees that maybe dealing with winter is better. The people in SF are extremely different than NY, lots and lots of tech bros, less diversity from a personality perspective and frankly, just a lot of strange, antisocial individuals. The homeless population in SF is a huge problem and, unlike in NYC, tend to be extremely aggressive, on very hard drugs or seriously mentally ill. Food is not as good as NYC, public transportation is a complete joke. It is nice being driving distance to some cool weekend trips but NYC blows SF out of the water.

Yikes, this is on point. I do like that it’s close to the wineries, but that’s about the only positive thing I could think of.
You admittedly do spend a large chunk of your day working, so I probably would if my NY role was making me miserable and my dream job was elsewhere
