Paperwork yes. Litigation no.
I've repped for my parents and for friends before and never had any problems. I think it depends on your relationship with the person and if you can trust them as a client or not. I will say doing it for free is a slippery slope though.
If they hit you back with another issue and don’t offer to pay or even mention it then it’s time to ✂️

Nope.
Don't do it. These small little matters you do for a friend or family matter always come back to bite you. I know someone who lost their license off of one. These small matters always have hair on them, and once you're in it, you can't half-ass them bc you're not getting paid. Plus, family clients can be quite difficult to work with.
The kindest thing you can do is make a good referral.
I wouldn’t. If it changes direction even a little (which happens all the time) and you have to put the energy into it that you put into your other matters, there’s a decent chance you’ll end up feeling irked. If that happens and you don’t treat it the same way, then you’re being incompetent. Even if it goes as planned, you may be irked in the same way you are when an introvert is when they have to go to a party that your RSVPd for since now they don’t have the energy to go - doubly true if you get busy with other work.
Absolutely not. You handle one case that is on your wheelhouse, you become family and family friend legal representation for ALL matters - whether you know anything about the area or not, whether you have time or not. Also, family can be pretty vocal critics if you don’t get the outcome they desire - no matter what you’re working with or are up against. It could be some paperwork today, but a litigation/loophole/redrafting headache later when other issues you didn’t know about pop up. Just no… don’t do it.
Do not start working for free. Not even for friends and family. It’s NEVER just a “quick simple
matter.” If you decide to handle this, handle it as BUSINESS - engagement letter, billing, etc.
Don’t do it. The closeness we share with family members and friends often becomes the barrier to them listening to your sound professional advice.
No
If you can set clear expectations from the outset then it should be fine. I've seen instances where the client disrespects the attorney in court or isn't very professional - be wary of a situation like that.
Never again. I tried to rep a family member on a PI case. It wasn't my cup of tea at all.
Unless you wanna starr in the sequel of "my Uncle Vinny"... hell no.
Read your employment rulebook. You're probably not even able to do this.
