I wouldn't for one day. For two or fully remote, I'd consider it. It always seems silly to give up money, but saving hours of commute time each week would make it tempting.
I second this^^
I wouldn’t but that is a personal decision
10k for one day sounds steep, but I would be lying if it wouldn’t be tempting. I would have to factor in a lot of other things if we are talking about different companies. Benefits, perks, options to negotiate salary or days in the future. Also considering how likely they are to stay at that 2 remote.
You pay tax on 10K, so technically you would loose less than 10K. Consider other costs that you would incur if you to office, transport charges, gas, toll, commute time, etc and compare with how much you would get after tax if you go to office for that extra day.
I would take 10K less, just gives me more time with family, more flexibilty, on quiet day I dont work, and get other personal chores done.
What makes you think the 3 day company won’t enforce 5 days in the future?
120K assuming 1,800 hours of work a year is about $66 an hour. If commutes an hr each way that’s roughly 100 hours a year of $6,666 of your value you are giving up to be in an extra day. Maybe if it were only $5k less I’d consider it but ultimately $10k for an extra day, you’ll feel the difference of that extra money in your pocket but not so much having one more day in an office. You’re already there 3 what’s one more day
No I wouldn’t consider any sort of pay difference.
No, I don't think so. I'd consider taking a pay adjustment if it was part of a four-day work week, so you'd have three day weekends. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.
For that amount of money yes I would but I'd try to negotiate only 2 days in office.
Rising Star
Nope. The FV impact of that money difference is enormous at your salary level. Do the commute, up your knowledge and skill, then test the market again in a few years. Get to the point where the 10k difference is a much smaller percentage.
I wouldn't. If you do the math, 1 less day in the office is equivalent to 48 hours for the year which using hourly rate for this salary is 2538. Paying 10k to have one day less is way too much imo.
Your math doesnt work. Its 1 day a week means 48 days a month. Hourly rate is around $26
Work there for a year or so, build trust and the pay, then ask for flexibility.
The other place will probably require that extra day in a few months or so!
I would. It’s not a drastic difference and for the extra flexibility it’s worth it.
Boggles my mind how unserious people are with their career and boiling it down to a math equation of how many days you go into an office.
They are serious that's why they compare offers and decide.
