I don’t understand how these even exist currently. 4 competing firms means that 1 firm does the audit, 1 firm does design consulting, 1 firm does implementation consulting, 1 firm is left to give competitive bids for any of the 3 other services.

I think it’s a stretch to say they do the work that the big 4 can’t do for independence issues. I can understand why 1 firm won’t be able to do to independence but why wouldn’t the other 3 be able to? Seems like a marketing ploy to be honest. If you want to go to reputable consulting shops vault gives you a good idea.
There are many niche firms that do similar work to advisory big 4 work. Many reputable and sustainable. If anything government bodies are increasing independence restrictions worldwide. UK as an example. I began my career at Alvarez and Marsal and can say the lack of independence barriers were a huge plus
