How much nonbillable time is too much? I’m a second associate at a midsized firm and I have 30-50 non billable hours each month. An associate at another firm told me this was really high. Thoughts?
Anyone have any hot takes on life as a transactional associate at Gibson Dunn? Bonus points if you have any insights into their real estate group.
Finding it hard to continue as an attorney after 10 years as a very happy litigator doing insurance defense work including trials. Courts have been closed for over a year (I practice in NYC) and it does not look like I’ll ever have the lifestyle I once had and loved, going to court and depositions every day. Billable hours seem impossible without court and life has just gotten so gravely boring. Anyone else feeling lost? I’ve spent the entire last year trying to figure out where to go from here
Gave my two weeks yesterday and the case transition will be completed within a few days. Do I stay the full two weeks even though I won’t have more than 2-4 hours to bill a day (if I stretch it out)? Advice on what to do.
So, I'm really curious, for those of us who aren't essential workers, how are you handling return to work? Phases? 50% capacity? Self Identifying disclosures? Sanitization stations?
Any foreign attorneys feeling lost while working towards their master’s of law in US and working towards getting bar admission? Being an Indian-trained attorney, I still await to sit for bar (this year delay pandemic) but always curious about how things turn out for other foreign attorneys here on F1 visa.
Any tips on how best to draft an email asking for work from a partner who I haven’t worked with and who doesn’t know me? I’d like to get on their matters and want to craft an email that would actually get them to respond and be interested in giving me the work (as opposed to just acknowledging my interest and forgetting about it the next day).
I know this isn’t a job board but what the heck...anyone’s firm hiring remote securities attorneys? Older second year associate with 5 years of pre- law school and 5 years post-law school prior relevant experience. Most recently 1.5 years of traditional cap markets/securities law experience.
Is reading through Fishbowl billable time?
Can we stop attaching unpublished cases yet?
Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks
How many billable hours did you record in March? I had to get an early start on quarantine because a co-worker tested positive for COVID-19. So, I’ll start, 155.
I’m planning to buy the study materials for the SHRM-CP certificate through Amazon. What are the best ones to obtain?

Hello! I have a two part question: 1) is it worth it to obtain an SHRM specialty credential if I don’t have the broader SHRM certification? 2) has anyone gotten the People Analytics or Talent Acquistion credential? If so, how valuable was it from a learning perspective? Do you feel it significantly contributed to your knowledge in either area? Thank you!
A company I’m interviewing with asked for a sample deliverable but I can’t submit anything from Deloitte or KPMG, where I used to work. What do I do? Any tips?
How long after your first job (first real one after undergrad) did you start interviewing for other jobs?
On a weekly basis, because my cell has the same first six numbers as my mother's cell, I worry that I accidentally gave someone my mom's cell phone #.
We're returning to the classroom full time after Spring Break (finally!!!). I am going to be co-teaching for the first time and I'm nervous because I'm new to the school and don't know this teacher well. Any tips on how to get to know her and plan together?
“... Everything is geared toward the concept of ‘it doesn’t make any difference if people get infected. It’s a waste of time. Masks don’t work. Who cares,’ and the only thing you need to do is protect the vulnerable, like people in the nursing homes.” “But to say, ‘Let people get infected, it doesn’t matter, just make sure people don’t die’ — to me as a person who’s been practicing medicine for 50 years, it doesn’t make any sense at all.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/fauci-covid-winter-forecast/2020/10/31/e3970eb0-1b8b-11eb-bb35-2dcfdab0a345_story.html

What is the compensation band for a Manager at KPMG with the Advisory FSS with 16 years of Cloud Cyber Security and a DevSecOps background.
My parents are coming to visit for the first time since baby was born. We also have a toddler at home. Baby is 1 month old. They’ve each had the first vaccine a few days ago, so not fully vaccinated. They go to work which involves lots of strangers. Them to get tested before coming he said they will be with us for a full week. They are not, because face say that Hass should be reserved for those with symptoms. And the free tests are only for those with symptoms. This is so stressful and I feel so caught between my parents and my husband.
I work in the Human Capital space and manage projects. What is worth more - SPHR or PMP? Or do either count? Obviously want to make Director and eventually more...
Maybe recruiters suck and are bitter that we tell them that their firm is our top choice while we interview at as many places as possible at once. But when they ask where they stand ‘you are my top choice right now’
As people start going back to the office/clients, I’m begging you, please stay home if you don’t feel well. I would have thought that was the one thing minimum everyone would’ve learned over the last year, but I guess not. Even if it’s not covid, there’s still no need to risk getting other people sick.
Currently on the bench. If I put in my resignation for a month from now will they ask me to leave ASAP? I don’t wanna have them staff me and then have to turn around a leave first week on a project
At what stage you got filling that you have recovered from covid. Also did you do covid test every 14 days after initial positive test. I am caring for covid positive relative so want to figure out testing schedule for both of us. Doctors are saying patient can be covid positive for 3 months even after recovery. Not getting definite answers from them. This adds to confusion. Do we keep testing every 14 days just to montior. I am main working bee in the house so I also have to figure my isolation schedule.
Seeing some pretty good comps on Glassdoor for Slalom. What’s the pay band / benefits package like for Consultant or Consultant eq specializing in Analytics like?
Can I apply for more than one consulting internship at the same firm? I'm applying for all the major firms
🐟s - any anecdotes on your experience getting H-1B stamping done in Canada or Mexico (Indian passport)? Any reason to choose one over the other? Is it risky to do so (my current visa stamp is expired, have an approved extension 797). How long did you plan the trip for?
