Selendy & Gay Discussions

Does anyone have any insight on the Selendy & Gay case study portion of the callback? Not substantive legal analysis, but what was the actual structure like?

Pivot ideas for an ID partner (non-equity) who is just over it? I don’t want to be at another firm doing the same thing but just with/for different people. I also feel like it’s too late in my career to start over in a new practice area. And lastly, I can’t take a pay cut. Any good next step you’ve taken/seen someone take out of here?

My firm has a Zoom account. For whatever reason, the partner in charge of technology won’t let us use it, and forces us to use Microsoft teams instead. Every time I book something on Microsoft teams, I always have problems, especially when I’m working with other firms. I keep requesting the account log in, and all I get is “Teams works just fine, if it’s not, call IT (which is one guy who is unresponsive most of the time). What the actual fuck? If we have the resource, why can’t I use it?

Anybody have any insight into salary and billable requirements for Adams and Reese? Or just culture there in general?
From what I've garnered, seems like 1800 billable and around 125-150 for first years?

I hear people say "that's too small for me to do" or "I don't want to start there" not realizing that the some of the largest things have started small. You can start RIGHT NOW with what you have. This is the last month in the year, NO MORE EXCUSES.
I want to know what have you started lately? 👇🏾

Someone tell me to chill. Stub year here and my group decided to send out a report of everyone’s November hours. (This is not typical). Obviously mine are low. I don’t turn down any work but also am not nearly as proactive as I could be about asking for it. I mean, I thought, hey I’m a stub year let’s get adjusted and pick up the pace when my hours start counting towards bonus. Now I’m worried everyone is going to think I’m slacking and will affect first impressions. AMLAW 150 firm for context.

Biglaw mid/senior levels who work in large teams on big deals (corporate side, specifically asset management/funds): what are your daily/weekly hours like? At my current job, it’s just me + one partner on virtually everything. I’m working 14-16 hours a day consistently and have taken only a handful of weekend days off in the past six months. I can’t help but think that being on an actual team would necessarily be better, but I wonder if it’ll just be another form of servitude.

Is there any resources someone can point me to about the potential legal issues and more information from an HR perspective about contingent employees (temps, contract workers, part-time workers) versus normal FTE’s?

Also, at what point should you stop/slow retirement contributions, particularly MBDR, if it ties up so much cash until 65 yo? (Mid-30s, mid-$200s K TC, ~$600K NW, ~$5M FIRE goal)
