Unfortunately it’s just how it is in London. Biggest reason moving back to the US was the salary. Getting 2.5x what I was offered in the UK. If you consider £80k being the top 5% of the salaries in the UK, you can gauge the market.
SD1 is on target. I’d shoot for $200k+ base in tier 1 city.
My specialities include Cloud computing, Cloud security and Infrastructure Strategy and a lot of emerging technologies such a containers.
I do stuff right from Strategy definition and seeing them all the way through to execution.
Originated sales last year was £4 million almost with supported sales of £40 million.
Currently a Manager and I didn't negotiate well when I moved back to UK a few years ago From Singapore due to personal reasons.
Despite my impressive sales number and market relevance I got a pay hike of only 3% with a bonus of under £2000 so I am considering moving.
Does anyone else think I am underpaid?
Move... you will get 90-120 but need to move into a SM role...otherwise they will keep pigeon hole based on title...
If your sales are that high, I imagine you should be at the top end of SM in Salary, so... approaching 100-110K in the U.K. market. Assuming you lead projects as well.
There’s a whole basket of stuff. The market dictating the need to have the individual more directly able to support themselves (less welfare) is part of it. Other things like paid sick leave; better protection from redundancy etc all factor into the cost of employing you which the individual doesn’t see. Most people in the UK doesn’t worry about needing to save money for “just in case” healthcare situations or have to pay ludicrous amounts of student debt back. I’ll be honest - as a healthy guy who was educated more cheaply being on the US where it’s more cutthroat and individuals accordingly being compensated better works for me right now. On a more bleak day though it’d be a shit place to be.
What would a good tech salary be in London? Avg US senior cloud engineers average around 130-160 base.
