how are nurses going to gain experience if no hospitals hire new grads?
I can see and understand your frustration. Was a CNA for 24yrs and lots of experience in hospital and specialty care including 10 yrs in OB. I am now a new grad RN, working on Med/Surg, and although we are "less expensive" we also can bring just as much quality patient care and willingness to add to a team. Sometimes those that have tons of experience forget what it's like coming in brand new. I think care is more dependent on the person than just experience. I've seen plenty of seasoned nurses burned-out and bring less than standard care. I'm sorry your experience isn't going well. Those of us that have healthcare as a passion are just trying to care for patients as best as we can.
Hmmm. You really sound like a fresh new grad to discount experience as much as you do. I am a relatively new RN, five years in med/surge, now ICU, and I recognize each day how much experienced nurses offer to newer nurses, including me, including mentorship, critical thinking, etc.
I've been noticing that in the past couple of years, and it's a concerning trend. There's something to be said for those with experience and having a cohesive, consistent team. But I guess that affects the bottom line?
When companies stop prioritizing patient care, that is when a lot of things start going downhill. Profit is the only concern.
Been that way for many years
