How did you give notice you were lateraling to people you like? Particularly if you haven't been there that long?

I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬

I started a new job as an “office manager” at the end of January. The duties seem to align more with those of an EA, and I’m ok with that. Except my boss is a control freak. He scolds me over every little thing, how I load the dishwasher, maybe I didn’t push my chair in. Last week he told me I needed to work on my appearance. I was shocked. I bought all new clothes from Ann Taylor that are perfectly acceptable for business casual. He hates me. Move on ASAP or try to stick it out ?

I work at a service based MNC and resigned recently. I'm getting married within a week and moving with my partner, and won't be able to serve the notice period. My manager says to serve the full notice period or be labelled absconded. I asked the HR whether I will be labelled as absconded if I agree to buyout the shortfall but they're not replying. What to do.

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.

One of my direct reports has asked about going part time. They currently manage special reports in a bi-weekly publication, working closely with sales, freelance writers, and an internal designer. Job duties are primarily project management and editing/proofreading. As the first read on articles, they need to have an understanding of the material (business/regulation). Latinx - help! We used this term in our diversity spotlight discussing Hispanic Heritage Month. One individual said that in English a group of Latinos would just be Latins to be gender neutral. I understand the word is controversial but is “Latins” grammatically correct? I assume we should just say Latin Americans, but trying to understand if Latins is also accurate.
