Why we, as an industry, normalized these for-profit schools is a mystery to me. Sorry to the students who were left hanging, but these programs (and double-digit student debt) are constantly pushed on young creatives and it's about time we had a wakeup call. Ever wondered why there's a severe lack of diverse voices and perspectives at the top of our field?
Good riddance. Shut them all down. (Except VCU since they actually give you a degree at the end.)
@SC1 I agree, it's on the agencies. Not saying the school's weren't great at helping graduates land jobs. That was their purpose and they certainly served it well. But it costs you -- money and time. Not everyone can afford to spend two years full-time at ad school. (In cities with the HCOL in the country, no less.) Not sure about other schools, but MAS even used to tell its students that it wasn't recommended to work while attending. I remember being stunned by that. How tf did they expect us to eat?
I'm totally here for the industry's reinvention. 🍿
It’s time we held fat cats like Jeffrey Epstein accountable (not that one, the Chicago portfolio school one)
V true
Given that predatory ad schools have been screwing students with debt for a job-starved industry, I’m pretty sure that this is where MAS got its logo.
For me the real grift is pumping these kids out into a dying industry.
I would agree. Portfolio school helped me get my job. I’ve made a career of it but at this point I’m not sure how much longer I can keep it going. I’m worried everyday if I get laid off, again, I might not be able to find my next job. Profiting off giving the hope that this will be a viable industry in the future seems like snake oil at this point.
I also don’t know what this program feeds anymore. I haven’t seen work from 22squared or BBDO Atlanta in ten years. That’s not an exaggeration.
It’s probably regional work that you wouldn’t see nationally, like Publix etc.
