A colleague just executed the perfect Boomerang maneuver to get his raise.

He left our agency making $85k because they refused to bump him to $100k. He went in-house for exactly 11 months. Recently, our agency announced they re-hired him as a Strategy Manager, I asked him his new base over drinks: $135k. It cost the agency $50,000 more to buy back the exact same employee they refused to give a $15k raise to last year.
Why does corporate America actively penalize loyalty?

I found out a soon to be 2nd year associate got a 10k raise making his salary 110k now, while I, the soon to be 3rd year associate got a 2k raise making my salary 107k. So now the 2nd year male associate is making more money than me. How do I bring this up to the partners?

hey, I joined Deloitte in June 2020 as an GPS SA analyst, I just staffed on internal project only providing me adjusted utilization. Now my standard util is 40 and my adjusted is 105... and this project last in another month... by then my standard util might be 20.. will my promotion be affected by this? I'm currently interviewing for a remote role for a company based in NY.

The thing is I'm based in a different city (southern U.S.)

My question is:

When it comes time to talk compensation, should I base the market rate for the role on my city of residence or NY?

Would it make sense to ask them directly how they determine comp for NY-bases vs. other city-based employees?
