A few things that I noticed about the job market for Tech in 2026:

1. Majority of the companies are ghosting the applicant.
2. Companies reject applicants 30 to 60 days later.
3. Companies are using AI ATS to screen every applicant for keywords.
4. Companies are only keeping the job posting up for a 1 or 2 weeks.
5. Job search sites seem to have much less jobs.
6. Companies are underpaying.
7. Companies want tier 1 to do tier 2 work for less pay.
8 . Interviews are a 4 to 5 step process.

Cold applied for an awesome role, had an interview with hiring manager, recruiter, and given a pretty hefty assignment that I’m really proud of nailing. They followed up with an email asking for 4-5 days that I am available for a full day of interviews. Gave them 4-5 days, started planning for how I’d get those days off work during insane times at current job, and now not a single word from them to confirm a date. Been over a week now. Sad. Pretty jaded. What can I do? Already followed up

I am still on the process of getting my work permit and I am very clear about this during the interviews, but I suspect that this is the reason why I am not getting any call back. I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. Thus far, he’s landed interviews with (all in Houston): Baker Botts, Sidley Austin, Kirkland, Winston Strawn, Reed Smith, Norton Rose, and Locke Lord. Also Perkins Coie in Dallas. He’s leaning transactional, but also open to litigation. Any insights/advice on these firms in the TX market? Any to avoid?

Now I am getting calls from EY GDS for interviews.

I am not sure if u should attend the interview or not at GDS.
When I shared this scenario with my EY IN HR, she said please don't attend it may create conflict and you may also get blacklisted.

EY GDS HR is like, you can attend the interview, there's no problem at all. We don't have such a policy. Please suggest what decision I should make.

Pivoting industries is super nerve wracking.

Asking advice from a recruiter: I’ve been recently laid off :( This week I took some time to reflect, talk to friends and family. I want to be more thoughtful on my next move and although interviewing right away would be logical I feel I want to take a break and some time for myself. Take a month or two off working and use that time to plan thoughtfully on my next move. Would having that gap in my resume be an issue when I go back to the job market?

During my job search, I am getting a lot of recruiters asking for me to answer right to represent emails. These particular recruiters follow a same pattern and seem unprofessional. Shall I be aware and not sign these right to represents? Are they a scam? Or is it a cultural thing… can someone advise me, I’m based in the USA
