Hello, everyone at PwC just got an extra $1000. Basically the same 😒
Just marry your friend
It’s not too late
Geez Louise you guys are so negative. His question was is it too late to get the CS degree, and the answer is NO. He used the google example to show you guys why the idea even came to mind. And even if he doesn’t get into google, if he puts his mind to it and becomes a competent programmer, he can find himself making a decent living. He clearly has a resource and connect in a friend who works there - so that’s an advantage a lot of people don’t have.
You do realize that getting a CS degree is no guarantee of either a job at google or that bonus? Google hires the best of the best. It’s like saying that just because you went to Harvard you’ll be a president of USA. Sure, your chance does increase, but it’s not guaranteed by any means. Point is hundreds of thousands of people get CS degrees every year and only small portion end up working at Google
I made all the wrong decisions in life :(
US Dollars?
Lol that’s definitely not typical by any means. You’re friend must be a “rockstar” performer (literally what they’re called), who is a top 1% performer. Just admire your friend for his/her talent and move on
my SO did tons of algorithm practice and moved from consulting to software engineering in Bay Area. First year making 125k + 500k worth of rsu (vested over 4 yrs), second year got promoted now making 160k plus more rsu.
It’s real. I have friends in similar positions. Take a look at this article. Median salaries per sec filings.

@pwc6, if it’s a company that hasn’t gone public yet I agree with you. But at the public companies, they vest over 4 years and are liquid. So if you’re getting 800k up front, depending on how the stock price goes, you’re getting ~200k a year, which is a ton of money And that’s without considering their actual base salary which at that level is probably in the range of 150-200
Out of undergrad, GF had 250k rsu with 180k starting. IPO is next year
US dollar and base in Seattle
I call bs.
@ACN1 - Dream bigger. Google’s comp philosophy is “top of market to retain top talent”. If you have good perf & bring back a competing offer, even out of cycle, they’ll bite
Have you ever done any programming in your life OP? Does it interest you?
A friend of mine went back to school for a CS master degree at 28, with his engineering background. Dropped out of school after a year and now is unemployed.
That’s just another example of what could happen as well. DD2 has a valid question asked above. Programming is not for everybody imo
Oh.. do u guys have any job recommendations for an aerospace engineer? Asking for a friend
@dd2 took some programming classes back in college but never seriously used those skills in my consulting career @p2 that sounds like a base salary. The sign on and initial rsu alone can get to 250k easily
Oh shite!
Nope, not too late!
