A little reminder for you on this Friday!

I really needed this today. It's my last day at work. Well, I gave two weeks' notice which ended last Friday, and my boss said she needed me to work one more week. So I've spent this week making her life easier with literally everything planned out until the end of the year. Chose not to go away to previously planned few days at beach which was to be a brief respite before packing because I feel I need her recommendation for next job. Left myself 3 weeks to pack up house before movers come to move me from Philly to Rochester, NY. Leaving a job I love and people I adore bc of the 3 Ms: management, morale, and money, in addition to deciding to move near family. Just really sad and overwhelmed thinking about starting over after 30 years.... finding job, house, new everything....

I feel for you. I've been through something similar myself. I decided in my mid 30s to move cross-country to another place. I bought a new to me home, and then put myother home on the market. My move was due to my needing a geographic change after multiple violent crimes occurred to me in my home.

My faith kept me focused and strong. I'm not usually an impulsive person, especially with finances. But I had that peace and calm, when I was typically feeling high anxiety.

That was over 10 years ago. I'm still in my same home in the new location. My old home sold quickly for top dollar. (I didn't have to disclose about the crime since no one died - I survived!)

So many wonderful things happened in my life (great neighbors, fun times, getting married) that might never have happened, had I not made this change.

I wish you all the best, and you are in my prayers.

Fish friends,
Thank you for the kind words of encouragement above. I appreciate your moving suggestions! I've been decluttering weekly (have GreenDrop picking up goodwill items for the next 4 weeks) and I think now that work is over I can hardcore pack. I think my head knows this is the right thing but my heart is hurting.

Actually I am going through some tough times(going through a divorce), want to connect to EAP to discuss my mental health issues.
I had connected once and they say that the conversations are strictly confidential.
Just wanted to know do they really keeps stuff confidential or can they inform my Manager regarding the personal conversations.

Hi all,

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.

What is this? This is normal?

Stereotyping?
Racism?

The first time I ignored that, but now it has become a pattern and is bothering me now. I am south-American working in the UK.

How do I transition from a Senior Executive Assistant role to Project Management? Ideally I would like to work in tech. How should I go about this? I currently work in the Real estate industry so it would be a totally new career path. The reason I want to move into tech is I feel like many of the companies I see have the same values as me (diversity & inclusion) and a good culture is so important to me.

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! Turns out the salary and benefits were meant as lowkey bribes to insure I worked at the company without actually doing any work. Every single suggestion I've made has been shut down and I've been ghosted for several meetings with the CEO. What should I do? Just leave?

Working on introducing ERGs at a company- how did your company decide the first ERGs to start with? How did they communicate the start of ERGs and roll out the structure?

Hello!

I am being tapped to translate documents at work. I’ve done spot translation audits, and 1 larger Quality assurance document earlier this year, but was recently contacted about a potential large-scale translation initiative for next year.

Has anyone been compensated for these sorts of projects that would be “out of scope” for their role? How do you go about asking for compensation? Have any of you spun out and created translation service side-gigs?

My company has ERGs and one of them is pretty large and includes a lot of demographics. Within it, people are starting to kind of form their own subgroups (like based on office location or country-specific ethnicity). Does anyone have any thoughts around what would be appropriate for DEI practitioners to be aware of when serving these populations?
