A local tax firm has had the same job ads up for months. I'm trying to figure out whether they're constantly hiring due to expansion or if people are quitting as soon as they start. How can you tell the difference between a growing office and a toxic one?

If they have any reviews on GlassDoor, Indeed, or LinkedIn then look at recent reviews and that would give you a clue. If there are no company reviews posted, then either you will need to know somebody that works there, or apply and interview with them to try to get a sense of how things are there. That's my guess

I have also heard that some firms will post ghost jobs. Employers post "ghost jobs"—listings for roles that are not actively hiring—to build talent pipelines, gauge market salary rates, or signal company growth to investors and employees. These positions may also be posted to fulfill compliance requirements or act as a "backup" to pacify over-worked staff, while at least one in five US postings is never filled.

Or it could be that the local tax firm is keeping it up there for months because it's a tax loophole to show that they are at least active in hiring someone.

If you’re questioning it this much, it might be worth applying just to ask questions and see how it feels in the interview.

Have a look at the reviews on here and you should get a semi-decent answer. Sounds like it could be a case of having high staff turnover though if it’s the same ads going up

Question: can an employer legally withhold your personal possessions after you leave the firm? I left my old firm recently and they were not happy about me joining another consultancy. They are withholding any belongings that I left in the office and have ignored my emails asking to arrange a pick up or delivery of my personal items. I understand the covid19 environment impacts the situation, but anything I can do to get my stuff back? Any help would be appreciated. I’m based in NYC!

Anyone else having trouble focusing today? Every time I have a long break and come back to the office I’m reminded how much I don’t like my current job. ID Associate and I have such a hard time concentrating even after a week off. I find it mind-numbing and unfulfilling. I’m never excited to come to work anymore for the past few months now. Just found out from a legal recruiter that I’m also way underpaid here. Hopeful I’ll get a job in a diff area of law or find another calling altogether.

Considering switching careers:

I got hired straight out from college 5 years ago from a small CPA firm and have worked in Tax ever since. Lately, I feel like this is not what I'm actually into. What else I can do with my Accounting degree?

My passion is Real Estate and Interior Design, love Managerial Accounting, I can sit for hours analyzing data, I also have a degree in Supply Chain Management.

My passion cannot feed my family but I've been burned out so much after years in Tax. 😞
