A lot of Midtown is boarding up shop.
In the past, cities that have had to do this, don't recover for years. I don't see NYC salaries recovering quickly. Time to move, or renegotiate rent

This will be a long recovery. I don’t see New York coming back for at least a year

They absolutely are boarding up and night and opening in mornings... at least the ones near me

like

The wholefoods boarding up in midtown is incorporating hinges and doors on their boardings so expect they will continue to open whilst being boarded up in evenings

Boarding up shop = closing permanently?

or literally boarding up to prevent looters from breaking in.

like

To prevent looters. But should also mean they are at least temporarily closed. Ie. It's not like they'll open up in mornings and close at night.

The worst is the impression it's going to give to small, medium, and large business owners. What reason do they have to start a business or put up an office in Manhattan? When the city will not protect their property, create a safe environment for employees and customers to do business, love, and enjoy the city, and yet still will insist on very high property tax / rent.

like

Sorry can you explain why a little more

like

Most have already been looted. The rest expect that today.

Seriously questioning your definition of “most” stores

like

Is the boarding up bc of the Looting or vacancies?

Very different than “other cities” that have boarded up.

Are you sure? Admittedly I'm not 💯 on this.i thought boarding up meant just.. places having to close due to riots. Maybe it refers only to permanent closures. But even that, has been happening in NYC.

Fidi here I see shops boarded and boarding up too. Duane reade's, grocery stores are close or closing at 6ish or even earlier. If I could leave the city right now, I would (no family in the country).

The damage is done, but they have to do something to protect themselves and what’s left of it.

That’s great to hear!

Capital One got hit last night in NYC. They broke the boards and entered the property. Looting is still happening.

UWS here. Boarding up stores at 6pm and in boarding in the morning.

My boyfriend and I make 200K combined and live in NJ. We have $1000 in monthly car payments combined. That’s all we owe. Our credit scores are in the 800s. We have 50K to put down on a home. We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??

I’m looking to buy my first house later this year and I have a few different ideas on how to go about it. Would love some input.

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage.

I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.

Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

Has anyone seen an uptick in fraudulent paperwork ? I work for a single family company with 15k homes in our market and we are seeing so much . Funny thing in they always NSF app/holding fees a few days before or on their move in date and the fraudulent paperwork just follows after . Some we have found they change the fake ID around and use the same picture with different information . It takes so much of my work day catching these fraudsters. What have you done to combat fraud?

I was not yet in the job market last recession but I watched my mom get laid off and struggle to find employment during that time for the next 1.5 years. Team just applied for a TS Clearance (defense agency). Trying to assess if it makes sense to wait till the clearance comes through (6 months to a year?) before I job hop. I'm hoping to get some clarity on the following:
1. Can my company withdraw or cancel my clearance if I leave right after I secure a TS?
2. In terms of compensation, how much value (% compensation) does a TS clearance have in the DC area? Places I'm considering: AWS, Azure, GCP, Data bricks, Appian etc.
Any advice, thanks!
