Hi Guys,
I have joined Ofss 1 week back and on second day itself I was allocated to project and onboarding WIP I received mail stating to report back to office 3 days per week under hybrid work model policy. Is this compulsory my base location is 2600 km from my current location as I am joining the citi project its seems difficult for me to grasp things though I have only 1 yr of prior exp by I think my team is expecting a lot so moving to new city and learning at same time is not possible .

I thought that I really needed to go back to daily or almost daily in office work, but then I started a new job and realized that it was the culture of the company I was at that I didn't care for.
I'm still mostly remote, though I've gotten some in person time through travel, but I feel so much more connected with my team. It's amazing what happens when your team is generally interested in each other's lives.
Also, definitely helps to develop a routine. I am still sure to wear business casual clothing, which helps me get into the mind set of work every day

Not sure what city you’re in but carving out time where you can work from a nomad-friendly cafe really helps me. I’m hybrid and still go to a cafe for a few hours at least once a week during my WFH days

I had to make my own routines out of the house. Early morning walks/runs/coffee pick ups as a mental "commute" just to return home for my work day. Also when I had a neighboring coworker/friend who also wfh we had co-working days at each other apartments and coffee shops.

Yeah the days where I'd roll out of bed and start working were the hardest before I got into a groove. I just need like some mental space in the mornings before I jump into work and focus. Id also hate those days - in office or wfh - where like the MOST interesting part of my day was working. Give your brain a change of scenery or go fill your gas tank or take a walk with a podcast (upfirst by nps is a tight 15 mins or less and is good for this) really helped me a lot

See if there are any local networking or service groups you can join? I agree, WFH does not satisfy.

Be intentional about how you connect with people. Schedule time together to replace the "water cooler" talk.
If you miss being around people, try to work in coffee shops or libraries.
Please stay out of coffee shops and leave some room for those of us who are actually there to .. have coffee. Please. The last three times I went to meet a friend for an actual catch up and get together at a coffee shop, we had to leave because it was packed with people working and studying. There was no room for us to sit. No point in standing around waiting because those people are there for hours. It’s getting out of control.
Does your office have an internal instant messaging system like Skype or TEAMs? My work social life now purely revolves around casual conversations with a few close co-workers and my boss throughout the day. It is not only helpful to get quick answers for work projects, but also nice to discuss personal things, like how our weekend was, where we’re going out to dinner tonight, news article we read, gossip about co-workers, etc. It’s the perfect social outlet for me right now. Took me a while to start using it regularly, but now I’m using it more so than e-mail these days.
I mean, gossip within reason. Maybe “gossip” in quotes. I assume all communication is subject to view. I use the NYT Rule that was beat into me during business school: “don’t say it if you aren’t comfortable with it being published on the front page of the paper!”
