In all seriousness when I was at a larger agency we had actual training that we went through. Both virtual and in person. Now that I am in a smaller more 'scrappy' agency they couldn't give a shit about actual training
OP you need a mentor. And not one that teaches you process or walks you through decks and organization methods. There's unfortunately a lot of those types out there.
I was fortunate in that I had some amazing bosses who taught me well and I try to share that wisdom now. Unfortunately I see a lot of "mid level" and "senior" account people who were never taught the subtleties that AD2 is referencing, and both the work and the team suffers for it. A mentor is key, but having someone to learn from in the day to day is also important.
yes on specific so-called soft skills, e.g. negotiation or people management, plus some "client services" training days with competence leaders across disciplines - not a university degree curriculum, I agree. Better than the Mad men dvd though.
Find a mentor. Otherwise you're on your own.

There is no "course" on "dealing with clients" or "creating expectations" - that should be cultivated through on the job training by experience, led and mentored by your supervisor (and yes, I understand if your supervisor is bad at it, too). As I mentioned on a different thread a few weeks ago, I don't know how people with liberal arts degrees become account when they don't even know the 4 P's of marketing...
I have my undergrad from business school and all my soft skills were taught to me by my amazing first boss - calls, timelines nuances, meetings, client objections, client email writing, project brief writing, creative reviews, how to comment on creative, how to mark up comments, EVERYTHING about the subtlety of the job for the first three years of my career. She was the best mentor! Also, they give out insane titles left and right now. I was an account coordinator, Assistant AE, AE, Sr AE, Supervisor, Associate Director...
Slay. But seriously you don't know a good brand person until you've had shit ones. And oh lord there are shit ones
