Lead with what you’ve accomplished, and how much value you offer to the team. Don’t frame it in terms of time served or how much you need the money.
You asked about timing and yeah a year is a good moment to bring it up, but “I’ve been here a year” isn’t as persuasive as “I’ve done this and that and accomplished this and that”
It's not a matter of time. It's all about results you've got in this time.
It may be worth asking if there is a specific “review” / performance process in place or not. Many companies only allow performance based raises during the once a year cycle. You should find this out before making any requests.
Quantify your accomplishments and outline what you'll be able to accomplish in the future. Go for it!
It’s all about your work and nothing to do with how long you’ve been there. Put together what you’ve made since you got there as a prez and then demand the $$$$$. 15% might be ambitious because we’re about to hit a recession but swing for it 🤷🏿
Don't settle for 5% thats not even a blink of an eye for them get that 15!
Did you add enough value over the last year that you are worth more to them now? That’s the only reason you should expect a raise.
At $40k you are eligible for overtime, right? Did you earn any overtime? You might use that as part of your discussion. For instance, if you made $55k including overtime, then the company might actually save money by paying you enough so you’d be exempt ($62k). By the way, if you’ve made it through a year without any problems, you should be paid at least $50k.
