does anyone have experience exiting after 1 year? any vengeful MD stories? my MD knows a lot of people and i’m scared if i interview or exit to one of these places that he has a connection at he might try to mess with my career...

I am product designer with a fair amount of experience (6yrs).

For example, would the fact that an applicant is from Sullivan & Cromwell vs, say, White & Case matter at all, or is it much more about experience/interview? My therapist just told me I'm depressed..do you ever feel like they tell you things you hear a lot or could have figured out on your own? Like take care of yourself, it's ok to feel such and such, etc. I'm still newer to therapy so wondering if that's the common experience? Do you ever have moments where you're like wow that actually is eye opening and I wouldn't have gotten that from reading self help books and websites etc?

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.

Does anyone who switched from consulting to product management have any recommendations of h helpful PM books, courses, or programs?

How does search work at McKinsey? If it’s up to x weeks paid to find a job, how will they know if I’ve already accepted an offer? I’m trying to strategically declare search so I can have a backup offer and use my time to find something better, but I want to make sure that I don’t get in trouble lol. It’s also difficult to multitask finding a job and working on studies since you’re around the clock.

Just got another rejection... Is exiting to FAANG or MB really this hard? Trying to go tech.. or mbb, but not getting anywhere. I have 2 masters (mba, ms) from top schools, been in consulting for over 10 years, I am confident that I know my stuff well..but still I keep getting rejected. Interviewed with Google, Amazon, Cisco, McKinsey, and a few others and every-time there is something that is not a match... are the hiring managers looking for like 100% match? That will never happen!!!

Left McKinsey for a Fintech corporate last year. Really disappointed to see bonuses given out (cash is equivalent to half month salary, equity vested over 5 yes also not great) after getting the 5/5 rating and business doing well overall. Doubting my decision to come to industry. Is this the norm? Feels really low as historically variable has been a big enough component for me to pay down loans/invest.
