Going well. More tedious tasks than expected but that’s most jobs. Surprises: given a lot more responsibility and expected to wear more hats. For example I’ve become a data engineer even though I have no formal experience in it. Organizational planning takes more time than expected too. My compensation has increased in line with expected responsibilities. I’m making 200k 3 years out of undergrad doing very meaningful and statistically robust work, so I’m thankful. Never expected to have my own 1 bedroom in a HCOL city working 40 hours a week or less, so it’s crazy than I can live my current lifestyle at age 25 in SF. I have more than enough time to dedicate to my hobbies and relationships, even though I don’t feel like I’m contributing that much to the world. For that I’m thankful - comfort is a luxury
US salaries are absurd. 200k for a 25 year old with 3 YOE is mind boggling.
In other news, do you need an assistant? I’ll work for a portion of your salary.
Was fab the first year, loved every minute of it. The comp was great, there was no commute, WLB was awesome, and my team was phenomenal. Then we got a new CEO who was out of his goddamned mind- thought jokes about Jewish people were a-ok, thought calling and asking for analysis at 3am was just fine, thought firing competent people and replacing them with his friends who were NOT as competent was super, and saw nothing wrong with asking us to falsify numbers for board presentations. Noped out at first opportunity.
I did, kind of. Boomeranged back and got staffed on a long term project that is so embedded at the client that I might as well be an employee there. I don’t even have all our normal perks since the SOW requires that we follow their travel policies. Grass is always greener.
