VML does what’s best for them w/o care for employees or candidates. Do what’s best for you.
Take the job you really want. There's no point in worrying about being blacklisted, as that's a really hypothetical scenario. Don't shortchange yourself now over something that may or may not happen years in the future.
Also just be really diplomatic and apologetic to VML, and they should understand. Everyone would choose salary over hourly pay.
VML is 💩 to work for
I know other people who share my opinion.
It’s fine, just change your name and get reconstructive surgery
Freelance 1 is hilarious 💜
Just tell VML that what you’ve wanted all along is FT. Tell them that you appreciate the FL offer, but you respectfully decline. Don’t sweat it. They should understand. If they don’t, F’em.
This! FT > contract, especially in this market.
Take the job that's better for you! WPP isn't loyal to anyone, I promise
No agency that serves under a holding company!!!

A business cares about the bottom and line; freelance talent is the first resource to get cut when it’s time to cut costs. Do what’s right for you; let VML know you got a salaried offer elsewhere-they can either match or find another freelancer. Don’t walk on eggshells in this job market, make sure your bills get paid.
Take the job you really want. The last thing you want is to take the contractor role and end up resenting the fact that you didn't take a chance on yourself for fear of some hypothetical scenario where you might get blacklisted. Opportunities like these come our way for a reason; seize them while you can. Best of luck in what comes next for you! :)
Ad agencies these days are such a mess that I seriously doubt they even can organize themselves to “blacklist” you…Do what’s best for you-in your resume, looks better a full time role vs. an hourly paid contractor…
You might be blacklisted for a while. But if they don’t keep good records you should be fine after a few years. Congratulations
That’s not how this works. You’ll be fine.
You iz one funny mofo.
How does black listing work. Is it a sever in the sky with lists of people to never hire? I’ve always assumed this list exists and is untouchable
I understand how you feel. If you are sure of the second offer and explain to VML that you have decided to take another offer because it will give you more security. Not sure whether you should call on Monday or deliver the news in person.
I like telling them face to face. I think it shows more respect. It’s not necessary to tell them in person but it’s what I would do.
You won’t have a problem. They would completely understand wanting a job as FT employee vs being a contractor.
Uh there are soooo many creatives avail for freelance, don't hesitate to take the staff job you want - make it all about the staff role vs freelance and yes, be apologetic & offer to help network the role for them on LinkedIn or something. Freelance is defined by temporary status - you didn't even start yet so not a horrible thing.
Tell vml you have a salary offer and can’t refuse it. Maybe they counter offer. Also, in the future I’d avoid naming the agency in a post like this. HR are also on the app.
