After almost 20 years, my current company's about to be acquired by a larger one. The larger company is one where I worked before, but I was terminated with a specific "do not rehire" clause. I'm anxious about their HR systems merging and flagging this. Has anyone faced a similar issue post-acquisition? I'm hoping enough time has passed that they will take my current 20 years of good standing into account. Thoughts?

Never experienced this, I'd be nervous myself. With everything else that's going on, there's probably a decent chance it'll slip through the cracks. And even if it does get brought up, your YOE should definitely work in your favor. If there were any issues with your work, you wouldn't still be there.

Obtain a or some letters of recommendation internally from someone trustworthy? Sincerely someone who is far from any type of expert

I have been through many mergers. The acquiring company definitely checks. Sometimes they only check 10-15 years though. Your former company may not have many records around after 20 years. Make sure (if you don’t already) you have good sponsorship with the current company.

That clause might have mattered 15 years ago, but it sounds like a lot has changed. You’ve proven yourself where you are. That counts for a lot, I would think.

I agree with everyone above who said to obtain a letter of recommendation internally beforehand so hopefully that will help you. I haven't experienced this personally so I'm not sure if they will automatically let you go when they are acquired.

Additional Posts in Insurance

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?

I feel like every company lies about “working your way up.” You’re never allowed to blatantly say that you don’t like your position and you’d like to transition to HR or Finance. It’s almost as if once you get in claims, you’re stuck.

If you’re a manager and you see an employee that wants to branch out into a different department, why would you keep them boxed in for 2+ years?

Are there some background mechanics that I’m missing?
