They probably want you to quit
Everyone is kind of taking the scorched earth approach here. I don't think this is reason to quit on its own. Ask yourself do you like the firm, the people. Are you fairly compensated. If it is really just one more year it's not the end of the world considering the length of a career being 40 plus. I would suggest taking the long view when considering your response. That said you do need to consider if this is a sign that things are coming to a end there (maybe not). Sometime there are macro issues that you have no control over and you need to ride it out.
At that level it gets more political and less based on your contribution to the firm. If they wanted to promote you they would’ve. It’s time to pack your bags.
Hit the nail on the head. Sorry this is happening to you. Unfortunately, your situation is not unique.
Same boat last year and expect the same decision this year even though local partner is supportive of promo to director. I’ve made the decision to coast until they get rid of me
1- it's a crap move by your employer
2- too many see promotions as a reward for good work, but first the employer has to have a NEED for someone @ that level
3- understandable that you'd want to exit, but do consider things carefully - consider the effort you have to expend to replace the relationships you've built (or not built). And will anyplace else be any better than where you are - really?
That’s sad.. it’s time to move away from there
I've never been in conversation at that level. But I have seen something similar at much lower levels. Which is bad because its bad process. But good because you can influence the process if you know how to go about it.
Same thing happened to me years ago. Got promoted the following year. Now retired. Hang in there. It’ll happen.
Thanks.
I was told to take more classes to be promoted beyond senior level. I did and they let me go...
I think they just delivered the message loud and clear. Keep looking out for you and your family. I would leave if and only if I get a better opportunity else where.
Looks like our years of experiences are not being honored in this field anymore 😡
That’s genuinely frustrating and unfortunately all too common in some firms. Being kept in the loop for 12 months only to be dismissed with vague reasoning is not just demotivating — it signals a lack of transparency and respect. You’ve earned more than a “maybe next year.” If they expect you to stay quiet and carry on, they’re clearly underestimating your worth. Might be time to start exploring where your value is truly recognized.
