Yes. The irony. Using the FC to escape US housing costs.
Lol foreign currency maybe?
Based on the experience of certain family members, I believe you have to live in the U.S. for a certain amount of time every year (I think at least 6 months/year). I think you can seek an exception occasionally (there’s a formal process for this), but if you seek exceptions too often, they may consider your status abandoned. I’m not an immigration lawyer, but have heard family members talk about their situation.
You can’t be out of the country for longer than 6 months with greencard
thats exactly my plan - you just have to keep coming to the us with decent frequency
You can apply a re-entry permit that will allow you to stay out of US for 2 years..
Couple things:
1. The decision of working from outside the US also depends on if the employer is willing to let you work.
2. You would have to stay within the US more than the other country in one calendar year. If the CBP notices this when you enter the US, you will be in trouble so as others said look into re-entry permit
S1:
What do you mean not true? So you mean to stay a GC holder aka a permanent resident can stay outside the US for however long he/she wants? Doesn’t that go against the whole meaning of permanent residency?
You could residency if youre out of the country . Residency is based on which coubtry you stay most of the year. There are few exceptions so consult a legal professional if you would intend to stay outside longer than 6 months in a year, regardless if continously or not.
