Hello!
I finished my final round(s) for a TAM position at Google (GCP) last week and was told by my recruiter that my feedback was great and that I made a solid impression on the team and am "firmly in the running". I was supposed to hear back this week (according to the recruiter) but he just told me that it's still in the process and that I'll have to wait for another week or so.
Is this common at Google ? I have heard they are notorious for being really slow with their hiring process.

No, don’t bother trying to sue. They’re all lawyered up and you’ll just lose your severance. Unless you’re getting laid off because you wouldn’t sleep with someone in power
Usually they have it worked out ahead of time. Might give you one months pay sometimes a month pay for every year worked but they don’t have to give you anything. You will be eligible for unemployment bennies.
If you feel you deserve more severance, list out accomplishments that have impacted the agency bottom line and submit it to the agency before signing anything. If you can’t do this, take whatever they offer. Usually it’s one week per year, not a month. And remember that in NY state, they pro rate any payouts you get when you leave, such as severance, and divide it by your weekly paycheck and delay Unemployment until that money is gone. So if you get a months severance, you aren’t eligible for unemployment until a month after your last day of work. Even if it’s a lump sum payout. And when they ask, don’t lie and say you got nothing. They will find out.
There was a time that UE benefits started right away and you just pocketed the severance at the same time. Not any more.
I don’t think you mention where you are from so a lot depends on the laws for your area. Only advice I can give is to have a lawyer review any severance offer before signing off on it.
Also don’t forget to ask for your health coverage through the rest of the year!
Thank you all, this is very helpful. I’ll just call in sick today.
if you have a flexible spending account go max it out for the year at the dermatologist. I practically had a new face by my HR meeting. 💁🏼♂️
Sorry to hear that, but yeah, severance isn't something they have to give to you, unfortunately.
Sue the pants off the agency!
CD1 has it right. Get that unemployment application going as soon as your eligible. Sometimes takes a few weeks for them to process and you want to have it kicking in when before severance runs out. Best of luck to you. What market are you in ?
Depending on the circumstances (length of employment, seniority, how many others are getting laid off,...) if you ask for a bit more they’ll give it to you to make it go away.
