Alright, maybe not the right forum but any big law attorneys in LA that play an instrument (semi competently)? If so, any interest in forming a mediocre cover band to blow off steam periodically? :)

Ooh sounds like fun. If I were in LA, I would be interested.

What kind of music?

like

Would that be Foreigner and Chicago power ballads? Or more like Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead jams? Lots of excellent options.

What do you play?

like

Guitar! Ideally looking for someone who can slappa da bass and someone who can play drums. Into dad rock so Led Zeppelin, Stones, etc.

Probably depends on the instrument, but I know there is an LA lawyers philharmonic!

Hello!
I’m a student majoring in Software Engineering. I’m starting my third year in a few months and have an internship where I’m learning more about working with an actual team on real-world projects. However, I feel like I need to do more to stand out and have a stronger software background. Anyone have any tips or suggestions for what I should do on my own time to strengthen my skills?

Making a lot of money relative to the average but feeling poor? Median after-tax income was ~$55,000 in 1981 and was ~$73,000 in 2020. Using a Bank of Canada inflation calculator $55,000 in 1981 is equivalent to ~$165,000 today, which would put someone in the top 10% of earners today. But in 1981 the median family had that extra money. Who can I blame?

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

Anyone else super unimpressed with administrative support with a new firm after lateraling? I told a partner I’d just take care of a routine task myself. He told me my rate is too high and to use a “project manager” (basically an intern they can pay less than a paralegal). We have a 40 person group and 3 project managers making starvation wages. Big firm. You’d know the name.
