Hi Fishes, I am bit confused to pick the role in KPMG lighthouse as Sr Cloud Data architect or Saama technology as a Project lead. Money wise it is not a big difference. In KPMG I will work with partner where as in saama I will work with project/program manager. Please suggest your opinion. Saama KPMG KPMG India

Starting a new job at Applied Materials on Monday as a Manufacturing Engineer III. I’ve been out of college for 5 years and all of my work experience till now has been in R&D for start ups and small businesses . So not only is this a new experience for me going into such a large company but also a industry (semiconductors). Does anybody has tips or advices on what I should expect as a new hire and how I can set myself up for success? Thanks!

Yeah, I love NYC, but I’ll never live there. It’s great for weekend trips.

Upper East Side/Upper West Side are great places to live for people who want to live in a peaceful area, but also be 15 minutes away from the hustle + bustle of the city.
It’s not for everyone, but I can’t think of anywhere else in the US with as much diversity, vibrancy, and job opportunity as NYC. There’s so much to explore here too that I don’t think visiting for quick trips does it justice.
OP- I’ve lived here 9 months and feel like I’ve only scratched the surface
You need to live there to “get it”
Chief
Lol so you've never lived there and you're wondering why you don't get it? Might it be because.....you've never lived there?
Chief
I just mean that your ability to “get” the hype is dependent on media instead of experience, so you shouldn’t necessarily trust the fact that you don’t get it. You just don’t know it.
And idk, a bunch of people relating to forming opinions in ignorance seems like kind of a funny goal 😂

I’ve been to a lot or major cities and nothing beats NYC. It really is a special place.

New York is overrated.

I’ve lived in nyc all my life. It’s all hype, reality is, we hate everybody
Chief
Ya, overrated
Yeah NYC is the worst…don’t believe any hype…it’s not like it’s the center of the free world and has the most diverse everything. If you are worried about “hype” and what people think…stay away. We aren’t hiring.

I like it from afar too. I tried living there, it’s just too dirty for me but I live in a fake city so I do go there often.

This is how I feel about all US cities. All the same to me and I've never been excited to go to a city in the US. Now give me national parks and im there. Best part of the US.
I live here hate it will be leaving
I think it is absolutely one of the best cities in the world but not for the reasons it’s romanticized or hyped tbh
PWC2 hahaha alright then clearly I’m out of touch with wherever the hyping is going on 😂
Been living in nyc for 7 years and love it here. Struggling to realize I may have to move in a few years and that’s gonna be sad 😭
Just the cost of living in the city when my wife and I plan on starting a family. Maybe we can make it work hopefully

I lived there for 2 years, that was more than enough time for me to decide that NYC is not at all my cup of tea. 🤷
I am so with you Junior PM. No I didn’t live in NY my sister in law did. I did live in SF and London and both of those places far exceed NY in my opinion. Maybe SF less now with the homeless problem. I feel like it’s the most overhyped city in the world. It’s nice but it’s not the greatest and frankly there are many other cities I love for being vibrant, fun, entertaining and exciting
Grew up here, lived in the Midwest for a while, moved back and now looking to buy in the city. Obviously many of us get it - if you don’t that’s fine, you can be a holiday tourist or not come at all. The people who get what the city has to offer, and take advantage of it, love it.
Others need not apply. If you don’t like it or find it exciting than certainly don’t pay the exorbitant city income tax to live here.
Lived in and around NYC for the first 29 years of my life. Moved out a year ago to a suburb of a smaller city, best decision ever.
I'd say about 1/3 of the people i grew up with love it, and never want to leave, 1/3 think its okay, and the other 1/3 hate it. I was in the last 1/3

You couldn’t pay me enough to live in that trash

Lack of scenery. People are eh.
Restaurants are good. LCOL is nice.
I more hate living here because I’ve been here for so long. For someone new I think it might be ok.
Its Mayor turned it into a sh!thole.
