First year sucked but year 3 killed it. Patience and mentorship.
I would not want to be a partner if I have to live that year again 😀
I did not inherit much in book of business. When you look at your numbers and pipeline and compare to where a median partner is - it seems unachievable. Also as a new partner- you are doubling as a partner and a director. Moreover you keep feeling others a judging you (and they do). Overall it’s overwhelming. However high performing director one might be - nothing prepares you for partnership.
I had a strong partnership case with 2 year backlog of revenue sold so that helped y1/y2. Felt like it got scrutinized harder than others but who knows. Felt easier than the final years as an SM. Going through the admission process as SM and not knowing the outcome was the most stressful part. There’s so much competition and then factors out of our control.
Gross income y1 was about 50% higher but a lot of that was offset by taxes, family healthcare payments, etc.
This is a great question. Would love some more insights on this - what was it that sucked about it? What do you know now that you wished you’d known then?
Possibly toughest year of my career and I made partner when clients were lining up and practically begging for help. Can't imagine what first year might be like in today's environment.
Why was it so tough?
