Any advice for me as I go blindly into searching for a fiduciary to advise me personally?

Good luck. Typically, I value someone who answers all my questions with a balanced perspective. You will have to experiment like all other service providers. When I opened my hedge fund, I had to interview a variety of lawyers and accountants till I found a combination I liked.

Imo, fuduciaries are a good value add in terms of learning how to take advantage of registered accounts/financial planning but I won't say that they are better then the average investor. But they are definitely a good start to building wealth.

Look for a certified financial planner. They’ll be transparent about their costs and interests, and they must take required courses, pass exams, and take continuing education credits. You’ll still have a bit of a search, but at least it will be about philosophy and not about accidentally finding an insurance salesman.

Is tomorrow holiday??

A student of mine likes to write notes and sometimes questions for me on her weekly warm-ups. I wasn't expecting this one. In all honesty, Valentine's is cool, but we all know that we should value our significant other every day and not just one day out of a year. 😂 Furthermore, if I had a boo we would definitely be exchanging gifts for Valentine's Day!!! Hahahaa

Any South Africans in NYC here?

I got a job as a infrastructure consultant right out of college 3 years ago and later became a solutions architect at the company I am at now. I have a degree in CS and never really got the chance to use my programming skills (Java, python, Springboot framework). I’m finding that I’m not really in to platform engineering or cloud infrastructure and would like to pivot to software/app development. And suggestions on where I could get started on making this transition?

Pros and cons of moving to wealth management under someone like Morgan Stanley? I’ve got about $300K in non 401K equities, mostly VOO, but a lot of individual positions as well, and have always enjoyed managing my money. But curious about perks like free Amex platinum and enticed about the idea of spending less time managing myself.

Is it too late in our lives to jump into a mortgage?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.
