If I’m contributing to my Roth 401k vs pretax 401k and my employer matches 10% of my contributions. My employer match be 10% on my post tax contributions right? Technically meaning I’ll be getting less of my 10% employer match then if I were to do pretax 401k since that match would be on a higher amount?

Where do you work where you get a 10% 401k match???

smart

Hi AP

Your contributions are the same regardless of tax treatment. If you decide to contribute 10% of a $100k salary, you would contribute $10k, just with traditional the tax you pay will be based on $10k less income.

like

If you contribute less because it is post tax, yes. If I got a 10% match I'd do whatever it takes max it though.

I know for my employer that the match is contributed to a Trad fund regardless of where you decide your contribution goes to.

If I've maxed out my TFSA, should I continue investing through an RRSP or a personal investment account?

For context, I also have a good pension. My main concern is that while the RRSP will be nice to lower my taxable income now, I'm worried when I retire I'll have to withdraw too much from both the RRSP and pension. Thoughts?

Under contract for nearly 1.1M. Wife and I are at HHI $315k. Will go up in the future, $400k in 3 years and $500k possible in 5-7 years. We have $300k in non-retirement funds, $260k of which will go towards acquiring the house. We have 2 kids and will probably reduce (not maxing) retirement accounts next 18 months to do this. Anyone have any thoughts or feedback? We’ll have to live on a budget and watch but I feel we’ll get used to it and income will grow.
