“Any fun plans for the weekend?” So tired if kid-less colleagues asking me this every Friday. The answer always is the same. It’s some kid’s birthday party. Who can relate?

Don’t know how it is possible, but it is true. And seemingly always a kid I don’t know.

Been there - now my youngest is 16 and 3 in college next year so now I ask my team that question (they are 27-35 as we hire exp consultants) and they are all just starting their families - so at some point it reverses and you will be the one with plans 😉

The two most important decisions you will ever make as a parent and it must be made early..

No kid parties and no soccer leagues...

I actually like the kid birthday parties lately because more and more parents are getting with the program and serving alcohol at these things

High five. No I don’t want to go to group fitness on Saturday morning. No I am not going out for Sunday Funday. On top of it, traveling as much as I do, I can’t be out socializing away from home during the weekend too

I think little leagues are the worst with the practice and game schedules...hoping my 8month old picks from swimming, tennis, or golf

SA 1. So I have 6.

Swimming is bullshit. Lots of travel to meet which take all day and are boring. And it way too early in the morning. Don’t let them sucker you into it.

My friend has a kid who has 6am swim meets on Saturday. That sounds horrible.

I just completed the 2nd kids party of the day. Someone send help

The birthday circuit is done for the year thankfully. I try to take my son to the city arboretum or just any outside event I can find

Early on I set the rule up where I will only attend a kids 1st birthday party

Shit. Didn't realize swimming was like that. Totally picked these as something I could enjoy with him.

Any cons for tennis or golf?

My parents never came to my friends birthday parties

^ you went by yourself? At age 3? 5?

In Dallas, they all serve alcohol. Blew my parents (very traditional) away.

It gets better when you can drop them off. For my 4 year olds party. we usually have adult beverages so it's all good.

I wish I wasn’t adaptable. Humans aspire for a greater level of comfort and once achieved, adopt that as their new baseline. Because of this, somebody making $100k cannot simply comfortably revert back to a $50k lifestyle. The slow growth of personal wealth isn’t noticed as ideated. Instead, we are never satisfied.

Can you relate? Has your salary / net worth growth dramatically improved your quality of life?

Stupid Question- We have been thinking for IVF and trying to understand with this process, is there any difference in the health and life of the child as compared to a child born without IVF. I did ask this with our doctor and he said casually its all same. This is not to question any doctor but just to really understand what is going to be different with the kid. This is not very old technology and not much studies as well.

Is anyone concerned the push for sexual equality in pay without accordant leveling of parental leave is gonna backfire?

Here’s a hypothetical:

A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷

Very curious to get folks' perspectives on having kids at 30 vs. 35 vs. 40? Context: I'm 27 and am leaning towards 35ish age range for first kid.

Someone please tell me that I can get a rear facing child seat in the back of a mustang… otherwise it looks like I’ll have to buy a new family car to drive the little one around (wife doesn’t drive unfortunately).

Could be a good excuse to get a Taycan but was hoping I could just stick with my mustang. We said next car will be an EV didn’t think it would be so soon though!
