Honestly, I'm barely hanging on at this point, Im a tech consultant who is being asked to do more and more Dev work and I'm of half a mind to just go back to industry because I'd at least make more money for effort I'm putting in.
I rarely travel for work mostly because I can do everything I need to remotely. Iowa/no specific industry/Management consulting. I know quite a few techincal people that rarely travel mostly applications and development roles. Unless they're doing req gathering or training they can work remotely as well.
I don't think I would enjoy consulting that much if I didn't travel honestly
I understand most ppl here enjoy travel including myself. But when you have young kids.. It makes more sense to travel less. .. Prefer spending/ cuddling with family in the evening than to sleep alone in a random hotel room.
DC/Federal/Tech. Zero travel.
Slalom
I wouldn't enjoy consulting if there was no travel, I'd simply make more money as a Software Engineer.
OP totally agree. It's 100% situational
I love to travel, but its difficult when you have kids.
I hate not traveling.
Houston/Oil&Gas/Operations
IT Risk and Internal Audit Consultant. Very limited travel i thought it would be worse.
Federal
Not a fella, but analyst, Houston, Consumer & Industrial Products, making ~$79,000. That's rare though, but if you're in Houston and doing oil & gas you could def never travel
The industry is technically called energy & resources, try that
I barely travel anymore and love it.
Chicago/higher education consulting
Houston/Energy&Resources/Tech Assurance. Most people in the Houston office don’t travel.
You cant enjoy on consulting salary with no travel
Got into consulting world at the start of this year out of grad school. Been on a work from home engagement since the start. I only go to office for the parties or any trainings.
Nyc/finance/advisory
Just curious, when you say consultant salary what's the range you are talking about?
Sc2...I mean Core consulting ...Offer usually says something like 90% travel.. Your salary is based on that you will/ available to travel for that 90% .... hence the pay.....Vs Delivery center folks or Product based offices which has less pay & less travel... My Q was who makes less travel & more money 😊
