I think what often happens is you end up working 5 days (or longer hours on the 4 days), but only getting 80% of your salary. It’s whack.
Can you work from home one day and keep the same salary? The reduced days usually equates to same amount of work crammed in for less money.
I did this, but the actual work load was not reduced to the reduced hours. I worked enough hours to be full time while taking a pay cut. Good to be careful to set boundaries to avoid this trap.
I worked full time but from home on Fridays. It was necessary - you need a bit of space to adjust to being a working mother. I also couldn’t afford to cut my salary so needed a workable solution. It’s definitely worth the conversation
thanks everyone! will most likely look for wfh options. my concern is the work pileup sans compensation, setting boundaries seems difficult in our industry.
Pick up the “fifth trimester” on amazon. It’s helpful.
I think going back 4 days will help you deal with the train that hits you from an exhaustion perspective. However, you are the only person who will maintain the boundaries between work and time off, and honestly, it’s your right as a human being to set boundaries. I know we work in an industry that’s notoriously disrespectful of personal lives BUT it is possible when you are a mom. You need to be totally firm. Once you start to flex a little here and a little there you show people that your time is flexible. Make sure you tell everyone you are only working 4 days and do not let people try to make you do 5 days of work in 4. Conversations will be uncomfortable and at times feel hostile as people take things very personally, but they will get over it.
Not for lower pay. And the wage gap widens. That’s bs.
It’s worth it to come back part time if you can afford it. It was a blessing for me.
I wish I did this. My coworkers didn’t care I had a baby. Easing in gets the message across.
Worth it!
Absolutely worth it. Set boundaries.
I worked from home Fridays when I first went back and it was great. Baby was still small and slept enough to allow for me to get work done. I also set clear boundaries, like when I was offline for the night. Don’t let others in your company make you feel bad for that. They usually don’t have children and can’t understand. Which is fair. But you have to do what’s right for you and your family. Never feel bad for that.
whats 90 day option mean
That’s a thing?! I wish we had that.
