Not at all. Your firm and your taxes pay for unemployment, you might as well use it.. It's a bit of a pain but I have and would file. You do have to do some work by showing that you are applying to jobs. Because each state does it differently , check the website
Cash money homey. You'd literally be leaving money on the table not to take it.
Wait why are u asking?
D1, as I understand it, getting fired is pretty binary to unemployment agency: getting fired for low performance/utilization, or getting fired for major policy/law breaking. As long as not the latter you should be eligible for unemployment insurance.
Following
Agreed. You pay taxes so take advantage.
COLLECT IT
Why do you ask D1?
D1, oh. Unemployment isn't severance. Entirely separate issues.
From my understanding, and that is very little, it's either severance or unemployment.
You are eligible for unemployment when you are laid off only after your severance payments end
Is getting let go due to low utilization firing or laid off?
Just wondering. Last summer during layoffs, colleagues and I were discussing this and weren't sure. Some people got laid off after YE and got severance, but others were let go during the year. We weren't sure if they got severance
Were you laid off? What is your service one?
Nope.
Getting fired is "for cause," e.g., violating company policy, failing to meet minimum standards of performance, etc. If you are fired, you are not entitled to severance. It is relatively rare.
Getting laid off (downsized, made redundant, etc.) is much more e common. Performance, eg lack of utilization, not demonstrating strong skills, is often a factor, but you may never really be told why. When you are laid off, you are entitled to severence.
You are definitely entitled to unemployment if you are laid off. Not sure whether that's the case if you are fired for cause. Any time you are eligible for unemployment, you should certainly choose to collect.
In most states you can get unemployment if you are fired unless it is something illegal.
Correct Mc2! But that way the money goes farther
Pride.
Yup. I think you have to be doing something real bad to not be eligible for unemployment..."My utilization was low because we didn't sell work" doesn't put you in that camp. "I liked to steal company secrets" does.
