I always wonder how travel agents can still exist in a world with search engines. Then I see this post...
Lolol... I had a friend tell me he was using a travel agent the other day and I asked if he would fax me his itinerary after he booked it.
Just got back from the Maldives and did an over water villa at Summer Island using Chase Points. Resort included all meals and was quite affordable. It may not be as nice as the W, but it sure was a great place to stay. Rooms 519 and 520 are the way to go as they are the villas at the end.
you can’t get there 100% on points. you’ll have to pay a few hundred cash for the seaplane to take you to the island. TPG did a huge feature about it a while back, check that
Are the Maldives better then something closer, say Bora Bora? It just seems like a lot of travel time, money and points to go somewhere to be on a beach or overwater bungalow. I’ve looked into going but couldn’t justify it. Just a measuring contest to say “I’ve been there” imo.
I looked into paid business class flights to the Maldives on the United website. There were many routings but most were UA to Istanbul, then Turkish to the Maldives. The Business Class fares were over $10,000 or $11,000 per person in September and October. I was flabbergasted! United flies to Micronesia and soon a non-stop to Tahiti. Are the Maldives that much more paradise than a far easier trip to the South Pacific? And yes, I want a bungalow over the water in a 5 Star Hotel.
