Any tips how to get a partner (who is new to our group but has been at the firm forever) to stop undermining me in front of clients/witnesses/etc? I’m a 5th year. This repeatedly happens where I have the relationship with X, and he comes in immediately talking over me & all his commentary reeks of “oh 😉we are going to let her handle this call/this deposition/this meeting😉” and providing useless/redundant/wrong info before letting me do my job. Btw - work other partners freely give me w autonomy

I think people pick up on this even if they don’t say anything. If you have an existing relationship and your clients know and respect you, I’d just smile and let this person make an ass of themselves.

To be clear, I don’t want to just “leave.” This partner is an idiot I’m aware but not my direct boss and while I am going to try to avoid working with him as much as I can in the future, I am looking for ways to address/resolve this issue now and in the short term. I can’t bear to keep ignoring it however, which is why I bring it up.

None of my other partners are like this (and at the very least not this overt), so it would not make sense to up and leave over this unless it becomes totally untenable.

Understand the question. This guy is a personality type that exists in most law firms. Because what he’s doing is a feature of his personality it’s not really correctable. Even if he tried he would very likely revert and it’s unlikely that he will try because he doesn’t see anything wrong here. He thinks he a master of the universe but he’s also insecure.

So it’s not anything you are doing or not doing and it’s not something you can correct.

I feel like I’ve been neglecting this bowl. 😔 I’ve been doing keto with 16/8 intermittent fasting for the past month. By the time it hits my eating window, I’m starving and I don’t have time to make instagrammable meals. Like the one below 😄: Eggs and breakfast sausage with Spanish and Buttered cauliflower rice, and a salad. Not very exciting, I know. But what’s exciting is I dropped 15lbs!!! 😁

Is Operations paid the least at your respective firms? I was hired to a Client Service Delivery role with a heavy focus on project management. I regularly interface with leadership internally and at the client. But, I am aligned to the “Operations” capability and make the least of my teammates who perform seemingly identical work but are aligned to “Strategy and Consulting.” I worry I’m on a career path to being paid the least wherever I go, because Operations is in my title and background.
