I do. I switched from delta and actually really like it. I'm almost always the first one on. I've developed a system to 90% not have a person in the middle seat. I achieved companion pass and when you are a list preferred you get 100% point bonus which is already a crazy amount. I get a free flight in the US every 3 weeks. Also found out how to use SW points on other airlines for international travel. I'm very happy with my switch. I'm always treated well and you get free booze too if you want it
Please elaborate on this system to not have a person in the middle seat along with how you use SW points for int'l travel. That's my biggest concern is having points to use for int'l travel.
Middle Seat Strategy - two ways 1) you pick the aisle seat of an empty row immediately take laptop out and put tray table down this signals other business people and regulars don't ask you to move. I always find this person and ask for the window seat (I like window) and proceed to put the middle seat table down with a water or something and drape my coat in the middle seat. 2) you choose window seat and do all the above allowing one person to pick the aisle seat. #2 is less successful. Key tip, do not make eye contact with a single person walking down the aisle. Look as unfriendly as possible. Also 90% of the right side of the plane fills up first so I try to sit on the left while boarding
Yes, southwest is so much better consistently.
@OP how do you use SW points on international travel?
@KPMG1 👆
Following
Companion pass = 70 flights or 110,000 qualifying points earned in a calendar year. The credit card can help you get to companion pass but not the other tiers. Apply early in the year for the card, get 25 or 50k bonus points. Then anytime you fly after you earn companion pass, a person you designate as your companion can fly for "free" - you really just have to pay minor fees, $5.60 for domestic flights or approx $50 for international. You can only change your companion 4 times a year.
Sounds like you've worked up quite a little system there, KPMG1
Rewardingescapes.com for international travel
SW also has a link from your rapid rewards profile - something like "redeem for other rewards" - that lets you redeem them for international travel on other airlines. Haven't tried it, but it's there.
I know 4 people who have done it multiple times and it's insane the flights you can get for minimal southwest points
I'm making the switch to SWA starting next week. @KPMG1Can you also briefly touch on how the companion pass works / how much you have to accumulate prior to getting it?
So wouldn't work for if I was alt traveling and meeting someone at the destination. They have to be on the plane with you..
@D1 correct
Companion pass!
But the timing with southwest just works out great and they're so much nicer to you. Kind of what you need after being screwed over for a week
For sure. Also I enjoy they are usually on time or early and I can get on the wifi while we are still on the ground. Zone out watching bravo or during March madness basketball. Also they always give me more than my one free drink
You earn SWA points exponentially faster than the other airlines, especially when you have status. You can earn 135K SWA points faster than 60K miles.
I just looked at international flights using southwest points.135k points for a round trip to Amsterdam on southwest where the same route is 60k miles with delta. Has anyone had success with finding good deals, if so what international city? 2x the points/miles doesn't seem like a good deal when the points and miles between southwest and delta are nearly equivalent value in $$ according to TPG.
